about

For those of you wondering why my blog title is so long and unruly, I do have an explanation for you. The simplest is that my name is Amber. Amber waves… Amber. It makes sense. But it goes deeper than that (not too deep, don’t worry). Being a Kansas girl through and through, I've always had a specific attachment to the lyrics “amber waves of grain” in the song America the Beautiful. Now don’t get me wrong, this attachment does have to do with a little bit of narcissism. It’s fine. But those amber waves of grain are (relatively) where I grew up. It’s the part of America that’s a part of me. But even the little girl in Kansas had to grow up and move on. I’m currently living among the “purple mountains’ majesty” (they’re actually pretty brown, but let’s ignore that) in the wonderful state of Utah where I went to school at Brigham Young University. But even though this is my current life, my past is a huge part of me as well. And I want to be a part of both of these places. I want to be the amber waves among the purple mountains. And that’s just what I’m going to do.

But I guess I can tell you about me as well. I'm the oldest of four kids, two brothers and a sister, therefore I am the boss. But I absolutely adore my entire family, no matter how much they get on my nerves. I'm 21 years old and I just graduated with a degree in psychology from BYU and unless you're totally insane, I'm probably not analyzing you too much, so you can relax. My favorite things to do on this wonderful planet are to play soccer, sing, and read. I have played soccer over half my life and I've recently fallen out of touch with it and I am crying inside. Singing on the other hand is something you can really just do whenever. I started singing when I was just a wee tot. Imagine a three year old version of me singing "Don't Cry For Me, Argentina" from Evita and you pretty much get the picture of what singing is in my life. Reading is also something I've fallen out of touch with and am slowing falling back in love with. But the thing that is most important to me by far, is my religion. I am a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, more commonly known as the Mormons. And I am totally and completely in love with it. Pretty much every aspect of my life is tied back to a blessing or opportunity that has come from being a member of my church. But, I'm pretty sure most of the people that are willing to click and take time to read a blog by silly old me are already aware of the Church or are members themselves, so I'll spare you the details. But, for those who are interested, check out http://www.mormon.org/. If you go there, all of you wildest dreams will come true. Vote for Pedro.
